Implementation status
The cloud platform is target design — none of the paid tiers exist yet. This page is the canonical pricing strategy (revised 2026-07); the engine, CLI, and packages are free and open source today.
Pricing Principles
- Generation is never metered. Synthetic data generation is unlimited at every tier — including free — because the N-gram engine runs on your machines at ~zero marginal cost. We will never charge per record, per row, or per credit.
- No seats. No agent counts. Unlimited human users and unlimited AI agents at every tier. In a world where coding agents multiply test runs, environments, and data consumption, per-seat and usage-based pricing punish adoption. We price none of it.
- The value metric is the connected data source. A data source is a production database Phony connects to for sync and anonymization. Risk, compliance surface, and value all scale with data sources — so price does too. Tables, rows, columns, and sync volume are never counted.
- Local-first data plane. Sync and anonymization compute runs inside your infrastructure (the
phonybinary / agent); production data never has to reach Phony's servers. The cloud is a control plane: orchestration, scheduling, PII inventory, audit, and compliance reports. This keeps gross margins above 90% and means the free tier carries essentially no infrastructure cost. - What paid tiers actually sell: orchestration (scheduling, triggers, chains), visibility (PII inventory, audit trails), and the compliance artifact (KVKK/GDPR-ready reports) — the things an engineering leader shows their boss.

Snapshots are stored in your storage (local disk or your S3/GCS bucket); the cloud keeps only metadata. Spin up as many agent/CI environments from a snapshot as you want — environments are never counted.
